In this previous post, I talked about the best beaches in Menorca as the main reason to go. But this place is much more than water and sand. Indeed, it is an island that offers a lot to do. Below you will find the best plans and activities to do in Menorca.
Menorca has been the most popular destination of the last decade and it is not surprising, since you can go for a weekend, a week, with children, as a couple, with friends…

Different plans and activities you can do in Menorca:
In Menorca you don’t just go to the beach, you can do thousands things.
There are many activities to do on the island so with these plans you will not get bored. Note down what actives can you do in Menorca right now!
The best water sports plans and activities in Menorca
Have you ever tried kayaking?
Well even if you haven’t, give it a try in Menorca 🙂 In the Cala en Porter caves, there is a great area to practice it. Search on Google “Menorca by kayak” and you will get all the information to make the reservation. Fun is guaranteed!
Moreover, another sport that you can practice on the shores of Menorca is paddle surfing, in Cala Galdana and Cala En Porter. Don’t worry you will find board rentals on both beaches!
Snorkeling in Menorca
You have many options!
It is also possible to practice snorkeling and surfing in Menorca, although they are not so well known: for snorkeling, I recommend always Cala Morell or Caló Fondo in Sant Lluís. Both places are quiet and not very deep.
As for surfing, the truth is that there are better places in Spain than Menorca for it but it is possible and the best-known areas are Cala Tirant in Fornells, where kitesurfing is also practiced.
Practice diving in Menorca
One of my best friends love diving and knows Menorca very well, so I can say with confidence that the best areas are Fornell, Cala Blanca, and Port D’addaia. The last one, Port D’addaia is the best known.
Boat trip to see the sunsets: one of the best plans and activities to do in Menorca
Would you like to take a boat trip through the Mediterranean? 😉
You have the possibility of renting a boat but logically you must have a license or hire a professional to do so.
Since this does not happen in most cases (do you have friends who have a license? I don’t know anyone lol) so I can only recommend boat trips, to get to know the island well 😉
Without a doubt, what you cannot miss is seeing the island at sunset from a boat: it’s the best experience ever. Also if you like photography or you wanna show off on Instagram, it’s a great deal! From Fornell, you can enjoy a 3-hour ride.
Walk to lighthouses and visit coves, one of the best plans and activities to do in Menorca
The most famous lighthouse in Menorca
One of the best plans you can do in Menorca. Check out the sea views, it’s super common to visit the island’s lighthouses to snap some photos, enjoy the sunset, grab a drink with the sea breeze, and just chill!
The Favaritx Lighthouse is located in the northwest of the island and is worth going especially if you are into photography.
However, keep in mind that in high season , you cannot park nearby but in the parking lot: to get into the lighthouse area during the summer it is better to go by public transport from Mahón.
More lighthouses in Menorca
There is another one in Punta Natí near Ciudatella that is another idyllic place to take photos, especially when the sun goes down. Although it is true that when the sun comes down, the area is usually packed with people so go at night to contemplate the stars – but don’t forget to bring something to keep you warm even if it is summer!
Hiking and being in nature the free activities you can do in Menorca
What hiking routes are there in Menorca?
Luckily Menorca offers different hiking routes, from beginners to experts. If you like walking and would like to get to know the island, it is undoubtedly the perfect plan and one the best activities you can do.
What I can recommend?
Without a doubt is that you do the Camí de Cavalls. Of course not the entire route because it is more than 180km.
There are different sections of the Camí and these are the best known:
From Punta Natí to the Citadel (beginner friendly hiking route in Menorca)
It takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. It begins a few meters from the Punta Natí lighthouse, it is a flat path that offers magnificent views of the sea since the walk consists of going along the cliff until reaching Pont d’en Gil; after that, you keep going to the Calespiques area and reach Cala en Blanes. Once you get to the beach, find the bike path and follow it to the port of Ciutadella. It’s an easy trail, but it’s over 10km of walking, so if you’re doing it in the hot months, make sure to go late in the afternoon
PS: Close all barriers along the way, to protect the animals!!!
From Cala Blanca
Another section of the Camí de Cavalls that is very easy to do and is shorter, approximately 3.5km, is to go to Cala Blanca and walk to the Artrutx Lighthouse. From the beach of Cala Blanca, you have to cross the urbanization that is in that place and walk all the way that you will see until you see a lighthouse. The walk is about an hour and a half and in good weather it is very enjoyable to do.
Punta Prima to Cala Esteve is another beautiful route, and lasts approximately two hours.
Another somewhat hard excursion (due to the heat) is to go to Cala Escorxada, about 8km to reach this cove somewhat far from civilization.
On the other hand, some trails lead to several interesting places on the island, for example, as we have already said before, the Fávarritx Lighthouse: you can walk there from Es Grau and it is approximately 7km walking.
Little towns and other beautiful places in Menorca
If you don’t want to go hiking or play sports, you might be interested in getting to know the cultural side of the island. Menorca offers a great plan for cultural activities, from exploring charming villages to visiting art spots.
The Ciutadella
The first place I recommend visiting is the Ciutadella: there you will find the imposing Cathedral of Santa María, which captures your attention with its Catalan Gothic architecture and neoclassical façade.
Secondly, the Citadel is also known for its local market, called the Mercat des Peix. Here, you can find fresh products, especially fish, along with restaurants and stalls selling local goods.
As you continue walking along the cobbled streets of the historic center, like the ones on Seminario and Sant Jeroni streets, you’ll come across Can Saura. This place is home to the Municipal Museum of Ciutadella, which is super interesting.
You can also reach the Castle of Sant Nicolau, at the entrance to the port: it is worth exploring its interior to ascend to the upper terrace and enjoy an exceptional panoramic view of Ciutadella and the coastline of Menorca.
By the way, to enjoy the delicious local cuisine, go down to the Port and visit restaurants l. Or, take a relaxing walk around the port: I recommend crossing the bridge to the Paseo del Muelle for the best views of the old fishermen’s houses and ascending to a nearby viewpoint for a stunning panoramic view.
Fornells
What activities can you do in Fornell?
In Fornells, you can do many activities, for example, visit Carrer del Rosari, a picturesque street that stands out from its typical two-story houses, with resplendent white facades and doors and windows decorated with vibrant colors. Also, if you want to take some souvenirs from the island, it is the ideal place because there are dozens of shops with artisan products.
Continue your tour along Calle Mayor and in a few minutes you will reach the Church of Sant Antoni Abad: this church will surprise you with its elegant simplicity and its impeccable white façade.
And of course, you can’t miss enjoying a refreshing swim in the natural coves. One of the most accessible ones is situated in Fornells, with crystal-clear waters that invite you to dive in and enjoy the surrounding natural beauty, whether you’re on the rocks or on the pavement.
PS: If you go to Fornells don’t forget to try the Lobster Caldereta, a very typical dish from there. It’s delicious!
Sant Lluis
Sant Lluis can also be a good option: this town has the Molí de Dalt, which stands out as the only mill that remains standing in the town, being an emblematic symbol painted in white and sky blue. Today it houses the Ethnological Museum of Sant Lluís.
By the way, in Sant Lluís, there is a beautiful cove called Biniparratx. On one side of Biniparratx cove, about 5 meters up in the cliff, you’ll see lots of caves carved into the rock.
As you can see, Menorca offers tons of activities. The best plan on the island could be sunbathing, hiking, or doing sports. Whatever you want to do on your vacation, Menorca has something for everyone!
FAQs about Menorca
When is the best time to visit Minorca?
The best months to visit Menorca are May and October to avoid the crowds and get better prices. In winter, prices are lower but the island is quieter, and sea temperatures are usually acceptable until November.
I would recommend at least 4 days to explore the island, although it is common to take weekend getaways or combine it with other destinations such as Mallorca, Ibiza, or Barcelona.
PS: If you’re up for activities, summer months are your best bet as there’s a lot more going on then!
What places can’t you miss in Minorca?
In addition to Fornells, Sant Lluís, and Ciutadella, Mahón is another of the points of interest on the island.
Can you go to Menorca with small children? What activities can you make with children in Menorca?
There are a few plans with children in Menorca, for example, you can visit the water park Splash, which is quite big and is not usually very crowded with people. However, it is on the other side of the island, so if you are staying near Ciutadella definitely go to Aquarock.
Another interesting plan to do with the family is routes or hiking suitable for children, such as, going to Monte Toro or doing some sections of the Camí des Cavalls.
Although, what I think is very original to do with children is making cheese.
Yes, you read it right, in Menorca, you can visit a cheese factory and they teach you how to make cheese. There are different activities within the cheese factory, such as a guided tour or tasting of local cheeses. The place is called Subaida and you can reserve your place through their website.
In short, you have a lot of plans and activities to do which makes the island a very attractive option for a weekend getaway, a family vacation, or a surprise trip for your partner.
Are you ready to have lots of fun in Menorca? Which will be your best plan in the island? I hope this post is helpful 🙂
