WHERE TO STAY IN THE SOUTH OF TENERIFE

If you go to the south of Tenerife it is probably because you want to enjoy its great .climate and its beaches with golden sand. Or maybe your plan is to climb Mount Teide.

Whatever you choose to do, this area is where most tourism is concentrated: It is the perfect place to go as a family, especially if you want to make the trip with small children.

So, are you ready to know where to stay in the south of Tenerife? Check out the following places:

COSTA ADEJE

Costa Adeje is one of the most exclusive areas to stay in Tenerife: unlike the bustling crowds of Las Americas, Costa Adeje is more chill and relaxed.

There are plenty of 4 and 5 star hotels in Costa Adeje. I personally know two hotels, Hotel Bahia del Duque and Hotel H10 Costa Adeje Palace.

The Hotel Bahia del Duque makes your stay in Tenerife much easier, especially due to its location, since it is next to the beach. It is a hotel that is worth the investment (5 stars) but you have got many things in return: you have a gym, infinity pools, tennis, paddle tennis, golf, many restaurants and bars with an incredible gastronomic offer, lounges, spa, massage , children’s play area, etc.In short, a hotel that borders on perfection in all aspects and makes it easy for you to plan your perfect vacation!

On the other hand is the H10 Costa Adeje Palace Hotel. I really like this place to stay in the south of Tenerife because of the quality-price ratio: you have different pools (some only for adults), golf, spa, activities for children, shows, a children’s park, etc. And…The location is unbeatable! You can walk straight from the hotel to the beach, and the chill-out area is perfect for watching the amazing sunset. It’s an experience you don’t want to miss!

The truth is that I have been twice and I wouldn’t mind repeating a third time, especially if you go with children.

LOS CRISTIANOS

If you are looking for a cheaper option, without a doubt the Los Cristianos area can be a good place to stay in Tenerife.  It is a very good location to get to know the island (for example, to get to know Los Gigantes where the cliffs are). There is also a wide variety of hotels in the area. These are my favourite places to stay in Los Cristianos:

Andrea Hotel Tenerife

This 2-star hotel is located very close to Los Cristianos beach, so it can be a very good option: prices are between 50-90 euros per night, depending on the type of accommodation you prefer. Even though it doesn’t have extras like a pool or fancy amenities, this place is super clean and comfortable. Plus, its great location makes it totally worth it!

Arona Gran Hotel

This 4-star hotel located in Los Cristianos is known for the amenities it offers: restaurants, outdoor spa, hot pools are the points that make the Arona Gran Hotel an ideal place to stay.

Flamingo Beach Mate

With a fantastic location, this resort is a hit with young people. The apartments are very well maintained and cost approximately 170 per person per night.

EL MÉDANO

If you’re into surfing or windsurfing, this spot is perfect for you! It’s a great place for young people to hang out and catch some waves. If you’re around 30 and want to stay in the south of Tenerife without breaking the bank on a 4 or 5-star hotel, check out Casa Grande Surf Hostel. It’s one of the best hostels on the island!

WHERE TO STAY IN THE NORTH OF TENERIFE

The south of Tenerife is the area best known by European and international tourists, but did you know that the north of Tenerife can also be a very good option to stay on the island?

If you’re looking for a cool place to visit that’s not packed with tourists, check out the northern area! It’s super chill and welcoming, plus you can really dive into the local culture for a more authentic experience.

Plus, the landscape is gorgeous! There are black sand beaches that might not be as Caribbean as you’re used to, but trust me, they are stunning, especially the ones that are nearly untouched. If you want a unique and beautiful getaway, this is the place to be!

And the best?

Staying in the northern part of Tenerife is much quieter and cheaper.

Bajamar

Located in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, this small site on the island is known for its natural pools. If you would like to stay in Bajamar, I recommend “Bajamar Beach vibes apartment”.

Punta del Hidalgo

One of the most charming places on the island of Tenerife, it is next to Bajamar. It is a small town also known for its natural pools and its large lighthouse. Also, Punta del Hidalgo is the ideal destination if you like hiking 😉

Two places are known on the island, the Hotel “Oceano Health Spa Tenerife” (a 4-star hotel) and “Punta Paradiso”. I loved this last one!

WHERE TO STAY IN PUERTO DE LA CRUZ (TENERIFE)

If you’re looking for a cool spot to chill in Tenerife, check out this town in the north of the island. It’s got everything you need: awesome restaurants, cool shops, and unique volcanic beaches. Plus, it’s not as packed with tourists, so you can enjoy a more relaxed vibe all year round. If you’re up for an adventure in northern Tenerife, this place is a must-visit!

If you want a resort, I recommend Sol Costa Atlantis, a 4-star hotel with a good location in Puerto de la Cruz.

But there are also hotels with more affordable prices: a hotel that I know which by the way it’s so good (I have relatives who stay there every year) is a small 2-star hotel called “Hotel Acuario”: depending on the time of year, the night costs between 30-50 euros. It doesn’t offer many amenities but it has a good location.

If what you are interested in is AirBnB or apartments in Tenerife, the town of Santa Ursula is a good place for it, keeping in mind location-price.

THE BEST HOTELS TO STAY IN SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE

Although it is not usually one of the destinations that tourists usually choose to stay in Tenerife, here are the hotels that are worth it in this city.

Iberostar Meritage, which is a 5-star hotel with all the comforts you can imagine on the island. The night is usually around 110 euros per person.

Villa 8 Islas: If you are looking for a cheap place to stay in the south of Tenerife, you will undoubtedly love Villa 8 Islas. This place is ideal for couples, young people and for groups who want to discover Tenerife at an affordable price (on average it is 40 euros per night!)

If you are looking for a bed & breakfast in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, I have a place for you: it’s called F24. It is a small hotel with cozy rooms and a small swimming pool. In the summer months the night costs approximately 85 euros per person.

FAQs about where to stay in Tenerife

1- Is it better to stay in the south of Tenerife or the north of Tenerife?

If you want sun all year round, good temperatures, white sand beaches and a wide range of hotels, without a doubt the best place will be the south.

However, if what you are looking for is tranquility, more affordable prices and picturesque towns, the north of Tenerife is the best place to stay.

It is also a possibility to stay longer and split up your stay in Tenerife between the south and the north. The island can be visited in approximately one hour, from north to south 🙂

2- When should I book the hotel?

Tenerife is fun to visit all year round! It is true that the months of December, Easter and summer (if you want to go in August, the occupancy percentage is very high and the price skyrockets) are the months where the demand for accommodation rises, so, to book the hotel In Tenerife you will need 10-12 weeks in advance.

P.S: If you’re planning to rent a car (which is a good idea), make sure to book it a few weeks ahead of time.

I hope this information helps you decide where you are going to stay in Tenerife 🙂 see you!
